In collaboration with Esti Contes
In this performance, the performers recite, sing, and deconstruct the song “Po Be’eretz Chemdat Avot” (Here in Our Fathers’ Beloved Land) in collaboration with the audience, while eight Sabra-like dolls surrounding them mimic their voices, in the beginning in unison and then slowly becoming chaotic. The choice of Sabra dolls that echo the performers’ speech stems from a desire to critically examine the lyrics of the song, which were once part of a seemingly innocent patriotic education and discourse. Through the vocal deconstruction of the song, the performers reveal the tension between the ideals that accompanied the formation of the Land of Israel and the contemporary reality.
