The work is a participatory performance. We are two artists sitting at two separate tables. Next to us is a roll-up banner with the work’s logo: “Seeing Close, Seeing Through.” The audience is invited to sit separately in front of each of us. We ask whoever sits down – “How are you?” and listen with full attention to their story. At the end of the story, each of us asks the participants’ permission to write a poem or create a drawing inspired by the story we heard. Afterwards, each participant receives as a gift the poem inside an envelope printed with the logo, and the drawing wrapped with a ribbon. The drawing and poem reflect the feelings we experience from the stories the audience told and from close observation of their faces and body language. We seek to create an intimate connection with the audience, to truly see them and give them artistic feedback about what we feel in their presence.
