The Witch Corrected (2018)

January 8, 2019 Merav Tzur

This project looks on how women have been portrayed in myths, fairy tales, and folklore, and how those restrictive archetypes contributed to the empowerment of the pervasive patriarchy. I inhabit roles, such as the witch, and depict her doing everyday activities. These depictions upend the long-standing view of these “dangerous,” powerful outcasts by placing them into the sphere of the everyday, engaging in commonplace, utilitarian activities.

The Malleus Maleficarum or the “hammer of witches,” might be the wickedest, silliest and most insane and disastrous literary work. It is a manual for members of the inquisition to identify and prosecute alleged witches in the 15th and 16th centuries. One of the most interesting scenarios the author constructed was that witches steal dicks from men, keep them in a nest, and feed them oats.
