The Association for Unborn Humans- Confidential Parent/Unborn Child Agreement (2019-2022)

Humans have physical, emotional, and cultural mechanisms that serve to sustain survival and reproduction. It is only natural that, without much reflection, they continue to perform the function which they were born to execute– producing new generations of children at a rate of 131.4 million births per year. Millions of children are born into a complicated situation called life, without a chance to decide whether they want to engage in such an experience or not. If humans cannot ask their unborn children whether they want to be alive, do they have a right to impose life on them?

Two performers who act as representatives of The Association for Unborn Humans introduce their mission and philosophy to the audience. They engage in dialogues concerning topics such as the risks and benefits of being alive; the sometime unrealistic expectations parents have of their kid; wether something is better than nothing; issues regarding ecological footprint and the future of earth and more.

Representatives also urge people to take The Confidential Parent/Unborn Child Agreement home with them for personal use. This fictitious agreement, which is written as an official document ‘assures’ a fair disclosure of what is to be expected if a person chooses to be born.

Like with similar performances I have done in the past, a large component of the work is constituted by the dialogue or interactions that the situation elicits. The audience has the option to either engage, be bystanders, or ignore the performance all together.

Preformed at Haifa Museum of Art on August 29th, 2019 in conjunction with the exhibition ״Fake News Fake Truths״ and at Fresh Paint Fair 2022.
